January deer damage hunt near Choteau
Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 4 news release:
Spring Creek Preserve deer damage hunt.
Fish, Wildlife and Parks Commission has set a January deer damage hunt for north of Choteau. The hunt will be for antlerless mule deer and whitetails in the existing Teton Spring Creek Bird Preserve and on several adjacent ranches.
The hunt will be in portions of hunting districts 404 and 450.
Hunters will need an unused 2004 deer license valid in HD's 404 and 450. FWP will also sell unlimited-per-hunter deer licenses good for the damage hunt.
Because the damage hunt area is all private land, hunters must contact participating landowners to obtain permission to hunt.
Any legally defined weapon may be used within the damage hunt area outside the Preserve. Landowners, however, may restrict weapon type.
Hunters must be aware there are homes and buildings in and around the Preserve. Be sure of your target and beyond.
Hunting within the existing Teton Spring Creek Bird Preserve will be archery only. Hunters are asked to report deer harvest to appropriate landowners or any FWP office.
Maps of the damage hunt area are available at all FWP offices, including the FWP Conrad and Choteau field offices.
